NBPS – The Idealist

Nature, Background, Big Picture, and Shape

You perceive the world with particular attention to nature. You focus on the hidden treasures of life (the background) and how that fits into the larger picture. You are also particularly drawn towards the shapes around you. Because of the value you place on nature, you tend to find comfort in more subdued settings and find energy in solitude. You like to ponder ideas and imagine the many possibilities of your life without worrying about the details or specifics. You are in tune with all that is around you and understand your life as part of a larger whole. You prefer a structured environment within which to live and you like things to be predictable.

Song: Lær Meg å Kjenne by Sissel Kyrkjebø from the album All Good Things.

Here’s a little musical interlude for all you teachers out there. Happy Teachers’ Day!

Gift by Mr Children

This song was picked by Japan’s televsion station NHK as the official song during its coverage of the recently concluded Beijing Olympics. I don’t think the song has anything to do with teachers, judging from the lyrics translation I got from here. But the video does feature teachers, and the imagery it presented are inspiring.

Reading this didn’t help me out of my state of funk *sigh*

Holding the lifeless body of her dead child like a rag doll, this female gorilla stares at the corpse in shock and bewilderment, unable to accept that her baby is dead.

Gana and Claudio (image from www.dailymail.co.uk)

It is a picture of pure grief. Inconsolable, hers is the raw pain of any mother who has lost a child.

While nature may indeed be red in tooth and claw, this moving image of Gana and her dead son Claudio seems to show that members of the animal kingdom can feel the pain of loss just as deeply as we humans.

Full story from here.

Danny Boy by James Galway & The Chieftains

I have been in a funk. A certain someone unloaded a huge chunk of crap at home and I have to do the usual clean-up. This certain someone has been screwing up systematically over the years, and I have single-handedly dealt with each aftermath, sparing the aging patriarch from the details of this certain someone’s shenanigans. The aging patriarch does not deserve such stress in this stage of his life.

That said, with this recent incident, I find that my tolerance level of such repeated trials to be dangerously low. I used to be able to compartmentalize my ill feelings towards this certain someone and go on with my daily life without much funk. But not so much this time. I guess having to deal with a compulsive liar on a long term basis have finally taken its toll on me. The constant feelings of distrust makes me question everything single thing this certain someone say or do. It is a mentally and emotionally draining process. I H.A.T.E. feeling this way.

This is the story of a FOUR-eared cat named Yoda.

The household pet, named Yoda, was born with an extra set of ears.

Valerie and Ted Rock took him in two years ago after visiting a bar near their home in Chicago, where he was being passed round by curious drinkers.

He was one of a large litter and the owners were looking for a home for him

I watched the Tri-Nations rugby match between South Africa’s Springboks and New Zealand’s All Blacks on the Australia Network channel that comes free(!) from my cable provider (was so happy when I found out they are broadcasting all the Tri-Nations matches live).

Even with home ground advantage, the Springboks lost to the All Blacks 0-19. Go All Blacks! My loyalty is of course with the All Blacks, but the Springboks are my second favourite team. So I do feel for the team and their fans. But it’s alright, you guys had already won the World Cup!

Speaking of the Springboks, does anyone else think Percy Montgomery looks a lot like Prince Charming from Shrek? Just me? Ok.

Is Percy Montgomery the template for Shrek's Prince Charming?

On a related note, I just read that actor and director Clint Eastwood is making a film based on the match between New Zealand and South Africa during the 1995 Rugby World Cup final. Then President Nelson Mandela had intended to use the Rugby World Cup as “a symbolic healing of the wounds caused by apartheid”. According to this report, Morgan Freeman and Matt Damon is attached to the project and Clint Eastwood is currently looking for actors to play the All Blacks. The movie will be adapted from the book Playing The Enemy: Nelson Mandela and the Game That Made a Nation by John Carlin.

This ought to be good. Hopefully I don’t have to wait long for the movie.

Pokarekare Ana (a traditional Maori love song) by Hayley Westenra

British songbird Sarah Brightman and Chinese pop singer 刘欢 (Liu Huan)  are the singers of the Beijing Olympics theme song 我和你 (You and Me) . The song has a simple melody and even simpler lyrics. I like.

He really should consider hiring her stylist

He really should consider hiring her stylist

During the performance of the song in the opening ceremony, Sarah Brightman looked resplendent. But I can’t say the same about Liu Huan though. Did he get the wrong memo and thought it was just a rehearsal? Who let him go on stage in that nondescript black tee and grey pants ensemble? Hey, where is that ‘member of the Chinese politburo’ that decided little Yang Peiyi was ‘not the most appropriate’ looking girl to appear in the Opening Ceremony?? Did he or she think Liu Huan’s attire was appropriate?

Anyhow, here’s the music video of the theme song.

On top of the ‘fake’ fireworks, it is now revealed that China has done a Milli Vanilli.

Some “member of the Chinese politburo” decided to screw with a little girl’s self esteem by telling her she’s not pretty enough to sing at the Olympics Opening Ceremony. Read about it here.

Girl You Know It’s True by Milli Vanilli

I did not watched all of the live telecast of the Beijing Olympics opening, because the medication I took for my cough was seriously making me woozy, so I dozed on and off in front of my tv.

Eventually I managed to catch the ‘encore’ (repeat) telecast of the opening ceremony highlights on my local tv free-to-air channel. Like most of the world, I was impressed by the spectacular visual treat presented by the Chinese. I also got a sense of deja-vu, like I’m watching some scenes from the movies Hero and Curse of the Golden Flower. And finally, I did wonder as I watched the perfectly formed footprint fireworks, how director Zhang Yimou managed that kind of precision.

Apparently, it was really too perfect to be true – some parts of the fireworks were ‘faked’. It was all CGI! Read about it here.

That's one small click on the mouse; one giant CGI footprint for all mankind
